Guardians Use Late Surge to Win
|
The Cleveland Guardians faced a tough opponent in Minnesota pitcher Miguel Toscano, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Progressive Field by a final score of 4-3. Toscano went 5.2 innings and allowed 2 runs. Cleveland reliever Manny Castro picked up the win, upping his record to 5-3. Carlos Mella took the loss. The last-place Guardians hiked their record to 30-43.
The game was decided with one out in the bottom of the ninth. With Cleveland trailing 3-2, Gary Dennis hit a fastball from Carlos Mella to center for a 2-run single. Just like that, the Guardians had a walk-off win.
"Put a star next to this win," Dennis said.
