Boston Sent Home with 8-4 Loss
|
The Toronto Blue Jays beat the Boston Red Sox, 8-4, at Rogers Centre. Tom Monroe, who finished 3rd in the AL in batting average with .325 last year, starred for Toronto. He was 2-3 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The winning pitcher was 23-year old left-handed pitcher Alex Bartolo. He tossed 91 pitches over 5 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits. Earning his 5th save of the year was Bryan Bassett.
An inflection point occurred with no one out in the bottom of the third. That's when Blue Jays third baseman Marcos Iniguez hit a curveball from Matt Barnes for a 2-run single. Just like that, Toronto was up, 2-1.
"There's never a lack of effort in our clubhouse. We're willing to do the little things to get the win," Iniguez told the Toronto Chronicle.
Toronto improves to 46-28 with the win. They lead their division by 4 games.
