Rays Prevail, as Round 1 Goes to the Wire
|
The Round 1 went the distance before it all was said and done.
The Princeton Rays and the Baltimore (Rk+) Orioles went at it tooth-and-nail and when it was over at H.P. Hunnicutt Field, the winner was the Rays.
They put away Baltimore (Rk+) 3-2 to cinch the series and won the right to move onto the Round 2.
For his fine play, even in a losing effort, Baltimore (Rk+) first baseman Henry Lopez was given the series Most Valuable Player Award. He hit .412, scored 3 runs and batted in 4 to win the honor.
"It's nice that someone noticed my numbers, but I'd trade it in a heartbeat for a win," he said.
The Princeton Rays don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Pulaski Yankees - Greeneville Astros series. That series is tied at 2 games apiece. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
