The Los Angeles Angels outlasted Blake Zobel and the Oakland Athletics, 8-7. Zobel was impressive in the loss. The Oakland left fielder belted 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Reliever Jimmy Powell picked up the win. His record improves to 2-0. Nick Rodriquez, who finished 3rd in the AL in saves with 34 in 2108, took the loss. Los Angeles's record now stands at 38-36, placing them second in the American League West Division.
Matt Martinez was the walk-off hero for Los Angeles. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Angels second baseman hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"The ending was a real humdinger," Martinez told reporters after the game.
