Seattle took on Houston in front of a lively crowd.

The Seattle Mariners had no problem beating the Houston Astros, 11-1, at Minute Maid Park. Phil Robbins, who led the NL in on-base percentage with .407 in 2101, led the onslaught. He slugged 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice for Seattle. Mel Valdez was the winner. He's now 6-5. The loser was Miguel Fregoso.

Seattle used a clutch at-bat from Alvaro Garcia to capture the win. The center fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Mariners ahead, 4-0. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.

"We can't expect to win," said Houston manager Zeb Currier, "when we play like that."

Seattle is last in the American League West Division with a record of 30-43.
