Vince Evers and the Atlanta Braves opened the Wildcard Series in brilliant fashion today, traveling to Arizona and shutting out the host Diamondbacks at Chase Field 3-0 to secure an important 1-0 lead in the best-of-3 series. Evers, the Braves left-hander, threw 6.2 innings of shutout ball.

In his 104-pitch effort, Evers allowed no runs on 5 hits over 6.2 innings. He walked 1 and struck out 10.

"We played hard and won," said Evers. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy.'

Game 2 is scheduled for Sunday at Coca-Cola Field in Atlanta.
