Richey, Phillies Take Dramatic Game 2 for 2-0 Series Lead
|
The Philadelphia Phillies moved to within one game of the League Championship Series today, downing the Atlanta Braves 2-1 in a low-scoring, extra-inning affair at Citizens Bank Park. Leading the way for the Phillies was left-hander Elijah Richey. He threw 5.0 innings of shutout ball. The win gives the Phillies a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-5 Division Series.
The knockout blow came in the bottom of the 13th inning. That's when second baseman Daniel Crissey stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and hit a run-scoring single, to win the ballgame.
"We were the better team today. Maybe that won't be the case next game, but we'll enjoy it for now," Crissey told the Philadelphia Gazette.
The next game is set to be played for Saturday, October 12th , 2080 at Coca-Cola Field in Atlanta.
