Richey Handcuffs Mariners, Rockies Seize 1-0 Advantage in R4
|
The Colorado Rockies powered past the hometown Seattle Mariners, 4-1, in the opener of the World Series at Safeco Field today. Colorado starting pitcher Philip Richey threw 8.0 innings of 5-hit ball, to lead the charge. The Rockies now lead the series 1-0.
Colorado used the clutch hitting of Armando Munoz to capture the win. The third baseman drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Rockies ahead, 3-1. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"I just try to go out and give it 100 percent every game," Munoz told a local reporter after the game. "That's my mantra, and like today, it will pay off more often than not."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Safeco Field in Seattle.
