Guardians Sunk by Royals
|
Behind a solid performance from first baseman Alex Baeza, the Kansas City Royals defeated the Cleveland Guardians, 8-6. Baeza was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for the Royals. Cesar Ramos got the win, improving to 6-4. He pitched 5 innings, giving up 6 hits and 5 runs, while striking out 8 and walking 1. Earning his 19th save of the year was Ryan Washington.
Andy Morgan had a big 2-run double for the Royals in the top of the second inning. With Kansas City leading 3-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a curveball from Kenny Guerrero, who is tied for 9th in the AL in strikeouts with 88, and swatted a double to left. It was his 12th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Royals ahead, 5-0.
Royals manager Connor Gould wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."
The 4th-place Royals improved to 34-43.
