Giants Take Down Diamondbacks, 4-1
|
The San Francisco Giants beat the Arizona Diamondbacks, 4-1, at Chase Field. Starting pitcher Andy Cote was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. The winning pitcher was Cote, now 5-6. He tossed 6.1 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 7. Alexis Mendoza was called on to finish, recording his 20th save.
San Francisco used a well-timed hit by Dave Melton to capture the win. The center fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Giants ahead, 3-1. Though it was his only hit in 5 at-bats, it was important.
"I expect to carry this team on my shoulders at times," said Cote.
San Francisco is now 48-28.
