Toronto Slaps 7-5 Loss on Tampa Bay
|
Toronto and Tampa Bay got after it at Rogers Centre.
Despite a great performance by Tampa Bay second baseman Dave Van den Bussche, the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Rays by the score of 7-5 at Rogers Centre. Van den Bussche was 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He scored 2 times. Jay Courtney wrapped it up, recording his 15th save.
Miguel Polanco, who is on pace to hit 37 home runs this season, took Tampa Bay hurler Matt Gillespie deep in the bottom of the seventh. His grand slam home run put the Blue Jays on top, 7-5. In all, Polanco had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"It's nice to deliver when your team's counting on you," said Polanco.
The Blue Jays now own a record of 36-38.
