The Kansas City Royals got a superb performance from pitcher Mark Ashford, but the Washington Nationals still won the game, 3-2. Ashford threw 6.1 innings of 5-hit ball. Dallas Cart was called on to finish, recording his 18th save. The Nationals, at 36-44, sit in last place in the National League East Division.

Bubba McGinnis had a direct impact on the outcome. McGinnis contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning to put Washington up, 3-2.

McGinnis attributed the triumph to "a good team effort."
