Riding the 3-hit performance of the 23-year old second baseman Jonathan Mendenhall, the Colorado Rockies stopped the Houston Astros, 6-2, in 9 innings. Alex Gallargo, 2-4, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 3 innings. Jon Torres earned the save for Colorado, his 15th of the year.

The Astros had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Rockies going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 26-year old catcher Jim Crosby came to the plate. Crosby hit a solo home run on a first pitch fastball from Houston hurler Miguel Fregoso. It was Crosby's 15th home run of the year.

"If it's down the middle," said Mendenhall, "you might as well hit it."

Colorado now owns a record of 43-35.
