Red Sox Defeat Rangers, 3-2
|
The home crowd was treated to a thrilling, walk-off win.
The Boston Red Sox snuck past the Texas Rangers, 3-2, in 12 innings. Boston pitcher Steve Johnson, in particular, had a standout performance. The winner in relief was Terry Connors. He is now 2-6. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings.
The decisive blow was delivered by Steve Slaughter in the bottom of the 12th when he hit a solo home run off 26-year old right-handed pitcher Steve Dixon to win the game for Boston. The home crowd went nuts.
"I like what I saw today," said Boston manager Michael Meagher, "and I can't wait to get back out there and do it again."
The win for the Red Sox raised their record to 41-38.
