Phillies Down Nationals, 2-1
|
The Philadelphia Phillies and Washington Nationals played a tight game with the hosts claiming a hard-fought win.
The Washington Nationals got a superb performance from pitcher Ian Vick. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Philadelphia. The Phillies won the game, 2-1. Vick threw 6.0 innings of 2-hit ball. Jeremy Kowalewski earned the save for Philadelphia, his 18th.
Had Joji Teranishi not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Teranishi hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Phillies.
"One measly run," said Washington manager Doug Graff. "That won't win you too many games."
Philadelphia now sports a record of 29-49.
