Big Game from Fowler Not Enough, Red Sox Lose
|
Boston first baseman Joe Fowler had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Fowler was 4 for 5 with a home run and 2 triples, while scoring 4 times and driving in 6, even as New York beat the Red Sox, 16-13. New York reliever Terry Lichtenberg picked up the win, upping his record to 4-4. Jayden Banks took the loss. Jon Barton converted his 21st save in 21 tries.
New York used a timely hit from Matt Foulds to get the win. The catcher stroked a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Yankees ahead, 15-13. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Foulds, "one at-bat at a time."
With the win over Boston, the Yankees improved to 35-46.
