Nationals Sunk by Phillies
|
The first-place Philadelphia Phillies took on the Washington Nationals in front of a spirited crowd.
Philadelphia Phillies pitcher David Trahan was in fine form, leading his team past the Washington Nationals, 4-1. The winner was Trahan. He threw 5.0 innings of shutout ball. The loser was Daniel Gil. The save was credited to Kyle O'Brien, his 24th.
Deshawn Martin had a big 3-run home run for the Phillies in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Philadelphia leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he sized up a fastball from Daniel Gil, who is the top prospect in the Nationals organization, and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Phillies on top, 4-0.
"I feel honored to be a part of this team," said Martin.
Philadelphia has won 5 straight, while Washington has lost 4 in a row.
