Phillies Drop Braves, 5-3, with Late Score
|
The Philadelphia Phillies had to overcome a fine effort from Atlanta pitcher Ryan Kohn to grab a narrow 5-3 win at Citizens Bank Park. Kohn went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs. Philadelphia reliever Eric Allard picked up the win, upping his record to 7-6. David Pearson took the loss. Jason Hunter sewed up the save, his 19th.
Tim Spotton tagged a home run off David Pearson in the bottom of the eighth. His 2-run blast put the Phillies on top, 4-3. In all, Spotton had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"Our goal is to improve each and every day," Spotton told the Philadelphia Chronicle.
The National League East Division-leading Phillies are 45-35.
