New York Loss Takes Shine Off Skogstad Performance
|
Though he had a stellar game, Brandon Skogstad could not prevent his team, the New York Mets, from losing, 8-6, to the Washington Nationals. Skogstad was 4-5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Ian Vick got the win, improving to 8-3. He held the Mets to 2 runs on 5 hits over 5 innings, while striking out 10 and walking 2. Alvin Janosky earned his 18th save in 22 chances.
In the bottom of the fifth, Washington designated hitter German Castro had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and two out, Castro stroked a 2-run single to center. It made the score 5-2, Washington. For the game, he went 2 for 4 with a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"It was offense that won us the game," said winning manager Noah Fourie.
Washington is now 53-29. New York is 31-47.
