Padres Reel Off Another Win
|
The Padres grabbed a win, 4-1, at PNC Park, overcoming a fine effort from Pittsburgh pitcher Marcelino Ramires. Ramires went 6 innings and allowed 4 runs. The winner was Jon Hodge in relief. His record improves to 6-4. Marcelino Ramires took the loss. Joel Mazzaferro got the save, the 5th for him this season.
Ron Jakob had a big solo home run for the Padres in the top of the fifth inning. With San Diego leading 2-1 and the bases empty, he got a changeup from 25-year old left-handed pitcher Marcelino Ramires and swatted a home run to left. It was his 11th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Padres ahead, 3-1.
"The guys are feeling pretty good about where they're at right now," said Padres manager Tim Lentz. "We have a lot of guys playing with confidence."
San Diego sits in first place in the National League West Division at 48-34.
