San Francisco Downs Colorado, 7-2
|
The San Francisco Giants knocked off the Colorado Rockies, 7-2, at Colorado Field. Carlos Cortez was a big reason San Francisco won. The catcher was 2 for 4 with a home run, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. Brian McQuain, who went 5.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 1 run on 5 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 2. His record now stands at 6-6. Colin King earned his 14th save in 14 chances.
San Francisco used a well-timed hit by Marcos Iniguez to capture the win. The first baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the Giants ahead, 3-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"They had a good approach," Colorado skipper Trevor Taka said of the opposition. "Hats off to them."
Their 32-54 record puts the Giants 4th in the National League West Division.
