Yankees Lose to Red Sox, 5-3
|
Boston beat New York on the strength of starting pitcher Sam Cardwell's fine effort. The left-hander led his team to a win, 5-3. Cardwell, now 7-8, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 7, walking 1, and allowing 3 runs. The win makes Boston 44-45.
Mark Fasciana drove in one run for Boston. The 29-year old catcher had a key at-bat in the top of the seventh. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Justin Pigott. It was his 24th RBI of the season.
"It feels good, just a great win all around," Fasciana said after the game.
