Starting pitcher Rod Pineda pitched well enough to help the Texas Rangers beat the Los Angeles Dodgers, 9-3. Pineda yielded 2 runs over 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3. His record improves to 6-6. The third-place Rangers are 42-44.
Jules Roberts had a big grand slam home run for the Rangers in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Texas leading 5-2 and the bases loaded, he sized up a fastball from 27-year old right-handed pitcher John Souza and punished it. The result was his 22nd home run of the season, which put the Rangers on top, 9-2.
"We take it day by day here," said Roberts, "and today was a good one for us."
