Mariners Rally For 5-3 Win
|
The Seattle Mariners had to overcome a fine effort from Oakland pitcher Brendon Howell to grab a narrow 5-3 win at Safeco Field. Howell went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs. Seattle reliever Mike Hartnagel picked up the win, upping his record to 4-5. Dana Joseph was saddled with the loss. The first-place Mariners have won 4 in a row.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop John Ables came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Oakland pitcher Dana Joseph, he hit a 1-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Seattle on top, 4-3.
"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Ables.
