Late Rally by Mets Locks Up 5-3 Win
|
The New York Mets overcame a good performance by Atlanta second baseman Nick Sprague to knock off Atlanta, 5-3, at Coca-Cola Field. Sprague was 2-3 with a home run, a triple, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Gil Hormann came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2.2 innings. His record now stands at 3-3. John Rood finished to wrap up his 20th save.
Jose Cortes came through with a big-time hit for New York. The catcher smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 5-3. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"We just try to have good at-bats, whether we're winning, losing, or tied," said Cortes.
The Mets, at 37-48, sit in last place in the National League East Division.
