Both teams had their chances, but the Boston Red Sox eventually prevailed.

The Boston Red Sox defeated the Colorado Rockies, 7-6, at Fenway Park. Boston first baseman Mike McMillen had a superb performance. He went 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Boston pitcher Billy Chiquete got the win, upping his record to 3-2. Jacob Caba got the loss. Carlos Lorenzo finished to wrap up his 16th save.

Rick Baylor, who is tied for 7th in the AL in doubles with 25, helped out the Boston cause in the bottom of the third inning with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. For the game, the right fielder drove in one run.

"We got the victory," said Baylor. "That's all that matters at the end of the day."

Boston, at 48-41, sits in second place in the American League East Division.
