Orioles Need Extra Innings to Top Yankees, 11-8
|
Despite a fine performance by designated hitter David Ortiz, the New York Yankees lost to the Baltimore Orioles, 11-8, in 10 innings. Ortiz went 3-5 with a double and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Pete Fordyce, credited with the win in relief, is now 4-1. He allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. The Orioles raised their record to 50-41.
Baltimore won the game in part because of Antonio Cardenas. The second baseman ripped a solo home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the Orioles ahead, 8-7. For the game, Cardenas had 1 double and 1 home run in 5 at-bats.
"Our goal is to improve each and every day," Cardenas told the Baltimore Bulletin.
