Hemphill Pounds 2 Homers in 8-4 Mariners Win
|
The Seattle Mariners defeated the Philadelphia Phillies, 8-4, in American League action at Citizens Bank Park. Eric Hemphill pulled his weight. The 7-year veteran went 4-5 with 2 home runs and a triple, while scoring 3 times and driving in 6. Rick Hutson was the winner. Over 6.2 innings, he yielded 4 runs on 10 hits, with 1 walk and 7 strikeouts. The Phillies, now 42-50, have lost 5 straight.
With Seattle leading 3-2 in the top of the fourth, Hemphill hit a changeup from Jimmy Bruder for a 3-run home run. It was his 12th home run of the season and put the Mariners ahead, 6-2.
"I warned the team before the game," losing manager John Lucidi told reporters, "that I'm wearing the same pair of undies until we win."
