Pirates Fell Athletics, 7-1
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Oakland Athletics, 7-1, at PNC Park. Pittsburgh right fielder Joey Noles had a superb performance. He went 2-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. The Pirates now have a record of 46-47 with the win over Oakland.
The outcome was still in doubt in the top of the fourth inning. With runners on 1st and 3rd and Oakland trailing 2-0, Mike Rutherford needed to get a big out. On a 2-0 fastball, Mario Marquez grounded out, putting the kibosh on a potential rally.
