Pirates Bruise Phillies, 15-2
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates bombarded the Philadelphia Phillies, 15-2, at PNC Park. Leading the blitz was Jonathan Nelson. He went 2-5 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 4 for Pittsburgh. The first-place Pirates have a record of 60-35.
With Pittsburgh leading 10-1 in the bottom of the seventh, Nelson came up to bat against Philadelphia pitcher Victor Flores. Nelson hit a fastball to right-center for a grand slam home run. His 13th home run of the season put the Pirates on top, 14-1.
"We fell flat on our faces," Philadelphia manager John Lucidi said, when asked afterward about the game.
