Guzman Propels Chicago Offense in 12-3 Rout
|
The Chicago Cubs handed the Cincinnati Reds a sound defeat, 12-3, at Wrigley Field. Edgar Guzman was a main contributor to the win. He went 4-4 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 4 for Chicago. Jérémy Dumont, the winner, goes to 6-4. He allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts over 6 innings. The first-place Reds have lost 4 consecutive games.
Chicago right fielder John Kincaid contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a 2-run single. It was his 27th hit of the season and put the Cubs ahead, 3-0.
"It's nice to deliver when your team's counting on you," said Guzman.
