On Road, Washington Beats Pittsburgh, 6-2
|
Pittsburgh got a terrific game from center fielder Randy Wilson. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Washington, 6-2. Wilson was 2-3 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs. Washington reliever Gene Bowman picked up the win, while Bobby Keever took the loss for Pittsburgh. Washington is 45-54 and Pittsburgh, with the loss, 48-49.
Washington used the clutch hitting of Luis Rivera to capture the win. The center fielder drilled a 2-run double in the top of the seventh inning to give the Nationals the lead, 3-1. For the game, Rivera had 1 single and 1 double in 5 at-bats.
"We'll just keep our nose to the grindstone," Rivera told the Washington Times.
