Reds Clip Cubs, 2-1
|
Chicago wasted a solid 6.2-inning effort from starting pitcher Aaron Hosey, losing to Cincinnati, 2-1, at Wrigley Field. Paul Edler, now 5-0, picked up the win in relief. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 2 innings. The save was credited to Juan Mata, his 1st.
Cincinnati used a clutch hit from Jamie Schexnider to get the win. The pinch hitter drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Reds ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a doozy.
"The hot tub feels extra good after a solid win," said Schexnider.
The first-place Reds have a record of 65-31.
