Padres Roll Past Mariners, 6-1
|
The exploits of shortstop Joel Clarke helped the San Diego Padres defeat the Seattle Mariners, 6-1. Clarke went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. The winner in relief was Mark Grantham. He is now 2-0. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. San Diego has 3 straight wins, Seattle 4 straight losses.
Vic Rivera had a big 2-run double for the Padres in the bottom of the fifth inning. With San Diego leading 2-1 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Evan Pratt, the 4th overall pick in the 2112 draft, and swatted a double to left. It was his 16th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Padres ahead, 4-1.
San Diego manager Tim Lentz said his team played a "no nonsense" game.
