San Diego Upended, 7-5, by Washington
|
The home crowd had a good time watching the San Diego Padres and Washington Nationals get after it.
The Washington Nationals withstood an impressive performance by San Diego first baseman Randy Donahue to defeat the Padres, 7-5, at Nationals Park. Donahue was 4-5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Daniel Gil was the winner. He's now 8-7. The loser was Jamie Hamel. Dallas Cart closed out the game, earning his 3rd save.
Justin Seman had a big grand slam home run for the Nationals in the bottom of the second inning. With Washington leading 2-0 and the bases loaded, he sized up a screwball from 25-year old left-handed pitcher Antonio Rico and punished it. The result was his 10th home run of the season, which put the Nationals on top, 6-0.
"Our goal is to improve each and every day," Seman told the Washington Daily.
Washington sits in second place in the National League East Division at 54-44.
