Blue Jays Roll Past Angels, 6-2
|
The Toronto Blue Jays trumped the Los Angeles Angels, 6-2, at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Toronto catcher Mike Beiriger was terrific. He went 1-4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Chris Gyory claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 3.1 innings. His record stands at 7-1. The 51-46 Blue Jays lead the American League East Division by one game.
Toronto center fielder Danny Funes contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball to left field for a 2-run single. It was his 92nd hit of the season and put the Blue Jays ahead, 4-1.
"Win or lose, we always try to grind it out and stay even-keeled," Funes said in reaction to the win.
