Guardians Handled by Seattle, 6-2
|
The Seattle Mariners defeated the Cleveland Guardians, 6-2, at Safeco Field today. Leading the charge for Seattle was first baseman John Brownfield. He was 2-3 with a double and 2 walks. The first-place Mariners, at 63-35, now lead their division by 13 games.
The Guardians had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Mariners going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 29-year old left fielder Omar Perez came to the plate. Perez hit a 3-run home run on a 1-2 changeup from Cleveland hurler Reed Harris. It was Perez's 17th home run of the year.
Brownfield told a Seattle Chronicle reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.
