The Detroit Tigers picked up a win at Yankee Stadium, dropping the New York Yankees, 6-3. Jay Garza was the difference-maker. Detroit reliever Jay Garza picked up the win, while Kelan Purcell took the loss for New York. Scott Duree finished to wrap up his 23rd save.

Jeff Pettinato drove in one run for Detroit. With one out and the game tied in the top of the seventh inning, Pettinato, who is tied for 10th in the AL with a .376 on-base percentage, had a clutch at-bat. Facing New York hurler Kelan Purcell, he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Tigers a 4-3 lead.

"We've got guys willing to do what it takes to win," Pettinato told the Detroit Citizen.

Detroit sits in first place in the American League Central Division at 63-37.
