Padres Send Texas Home with 11-4 Loss
|
The San Diego Padres topped the Texas Rangers, 11-4, at The Pound at Seaport Village. San Diego third baseman Alfredo Sanchez was a spark plug for the offense. He was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Steve Gallagher snagged the win in relief. The left-hander allowed 1 run on 2 hits over 2 innings. He's now 13-4 on the season. The National League West Division-leading Padres are 59-41.
Brent Shipley had a big bases-clearing double for the Padres in the bottom of the third inning. With San Diego leading 2-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Kelan Purcell, who is tied for 4th in the AL in wins with 11, and swatted a double to left. It was his 22nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Padres ahead, 5-0.
Said Texas manager Stephen Gesualdi: "They did a lot of things right. We did a lot of things wrong."
