Cubs Edge Reds, 6-5
|
With left fielder Devin Williams leading the charge, the Chicago Cubs defeated the Cincinnati Reds, 6-5, at Great American Ball Park. Williams, who was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2091 draft, went 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Picking up the save was Mario Gomez, his 24th. Chicago is in second place in the National League Central Division with a record of 57-45.
Chicago used the bat of Elijah Fairchild to get the win. The designated hitter hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Cubs ahead, 4-2. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Williams said.
