The Seattle Mariners had to overcome a fine performance from Oakland pitcher David Saldana to grab a 2-1 win at Safeco Field. Saldana allowed 2 runs over 5 innings. Seattle reliever Danny Enriquez was the winner. His record is now 5-0. The losing pitcher was David Saldana. Seattle is now 65-37.
In the bottom of the fourth, Seattle first baseman John Brownfield had a productive at-bat. With runners on 1st and 2nd and two out, Brownfield stroked a run-scoring single to center. It made the score 2-0, Seattle. For the game, he was 1-3 with a walk.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Oakland skipper Jon Pearson, "and it cost us."
