Mets Make It 7 in a Row with 3-1 Win
|
In a low-scoring affair between the New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves, pitcher Miguel Montoya was the difference between victory and defeat. The New York right-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 3-1 Mets win. Montoya, now 5-3, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. John Rood got the save, his 27th in 31 chances.
In the top of the ninth, Francisco Ruiz stood in the box, looking for a pitch to hammer. The Braves were trailing 3-1, but had the bases loaded. That's when John Rood made a terrific pitch and Ruiz flied out. Gone was the dream of a Atlanta comeback.
The loss makes Atlanta 54-50.
