Pirates Drop Blue Jays, 1-0
|
The Toronto Blue Jays got a superb performance from pitcher Greg Earle. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Pittsburgh. The Pirates won the game, 1-0. Earle threw 6.1 innings of shutout ball. The win belongs to Ed Negron in relief. His record improves to 5-2. Bryan Bassett took the loss for Toronto. After today's action, Pittsburgh sits at 51-52, while Toronto falls to 69-34.
Pittsburgh won the game in the bottom of the 12th inning. With one out and Bryan Bassett on the mound for Toronto, third baseman Nate D'Acquisto hit a dramatic solo home run, bringing Pirates fans to their feet.
"We battled our tails off to get this win," said Pittsburgh manager Merlyn Evans.
