Guardians Topple Mariners, 5-4, as Kirby Shines
|
The 5-4 Cleveland win over Seattle was due largely to J.J. Kirby. The Guardians right fielder went 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Picking up his 19th save was 24-year old right-handed pitcher Pablo Iglesias. The loss makes Seattle 42-62.
Cleveland took a 5-4 lead on Eduardo Roman's 20th double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Roman hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Seattle pitcher Colin Orr visibly frustrated.
"Scoring runs is scoring runs," said Cleveland skipper Danny Jaime. "It's important to have different ways to do it."
