Blue Jays Chop Down Orioles, 5-3
|
Toronto starter Steve Makeever pitched well against the Baltimore Orioles at Rogers Centre. The left-hander led his team to a win, 5-3. Makeever got the win, improving to 10-2. He gave up 4 hits and walked 2 over 5.1 innings. He allowed 2 runs. The first-place Blue Jays, at 64-42, now lead their division by 8½ games.
Enrique Andrade had a big 2-run double for the Blue Jays in the bottom of the third inning. With Toronto leading 1-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a fastball from 31-year old right-handed pitcher Willis Romero and swatted a double to center. It was his 25th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Blue Jays ahead, 3-0.
"This team has the heart of a lion," said Blue Jays manager Dan Silva.
