Guardians Squelch Mariners Offense in Shutout Win
|
The Cleveland Guardians went home winners at Progressive Field, thanks in large part to starter Brian Alvarez. Alvarez stifled the Seattle Mariners, enabling Cleveland to grab the 6-0 win. In 5.2 innings, Alvarez surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 4. He allowed no runs. The Guardians improved their record to 46-60 with the win over Seattle.
Kyle Allen had a big 2-run double for the Guardians in the bottom of the third inning. With Cleveland leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he got a fastball from Angel Alvarez, who finished 4th in the NL in wins with 17 in 2100, and swatted a double to center. It was his 6th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Guardians ahead, 3-0.
Said losing manager Jim McClintic: "The at-bats, obviously, needed to be better."
