Collins, Astros Wallop Mariners, 10-1
|
The Houston Astros used an offensive barrage to beat the Seattle Mariners, 10-1, at Safeco Field. Jared Collins, who is on pace for 105 RBI this season, led the way, going 4-for-5 for Houston. Jason Valenzuela picked up the win, lifting his record to 7-6 on the season. He struck out 4 and walked 2 in 6 innings, while yielding 1 run. Picking up the save was Jerry Tomey, his 1st.
Houston used a well-timed hit by Sean McFadden to capture the win. The designated hitter socked a 2-run double in the top of the third inning to put the Astros ahead, 4-0. Though it was his only hit in 5 at-bats, it was important.
"The vibe's good," said Houston manager Zeb Currier. "We've got to keep it going."
The Astros have now won 5 straight.
