Cardinals Suffer 7-2 Setback
|
The exploits of right fielder Andy Morgan, who is on pace for 101 RBI this season, helped the Kansas City Royals defeat the St. Louis Cardinals, 7-2. Morgan was 3-3 with 3 singles and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Mike Mask earned the win. Jason Romanchik, who led the NL in ERA with 2.26 last year, took the loss for St. Louis. At 54-54, Kansas City is in third place in the American League Central Division.
Rafael Avila had a big 2-run double for the Royals in the bottom of the first inning. With Kansas City leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he got a slider from Jason Romanchik, who led the NL in ERA with 2.26 last year, and swatted a double to left. It was his 6th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Royals ahead, 3-0.
"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Avila said.
