The New York Mets got a magnificent performance from pitcher Stephen Straka, who muffled the New York offense en route to a tight 3-1 Mets win at Citi Field. Santiago Rodriguez, credited with the win, is now 1-1. He allowed no runs on no hits. New York is last in the National League East Division with a record of 34-73.
Had Nate Morrison not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Morrison hit a 2-run single. That made the score 3-1, in favor of the Mets.
"This was a tough loss," said New York manager Mike Hanson. "It'll stick in my craw for a while."
