Tigers Lose to Reds in Walk Off
|
Reds fans were treated to an exciting walk-off win.
Erik Schmidt added some punch to the Cincinnati offense, helping them outmuscle the Detroit Tigers, 9-8. In the game, Schmidt, who finished 3rd in the NL in stolen bases with 39 last year, went 3-4 with 2 triples, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Reliever Dusty Plummer picked up the win. His record improves to 4-4. Jeremy Coffen took the loss.
Tim Mercer was the walk-off hero for Cincinnati. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Reds center fielder hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"It wasn't a pretty victory," said Schmidt, "but we got it done."
The Reds sit in first place in the National League Central Division with a record of 71-36.
